ESTATE MANAGER -GARDENER & HOUSEKEEPER COOK- Scotland.

A stunning role for a live-in Estate management couple- Horticulturally knowledgeable Head Gardener and a Housekeeper Cook for a perfect estate about 45 minutes away from Edinburgh by a lake in East Lothian. A really good honest friendly experienced couple who enjoy working together  on a private estate in the rural countryside .

The Housekeeper/ House manager can work self managing the interior with  hands on cleaning and  enjoy making the interiors beautiful and keep the main house and guest house organised, clean and tidy.  The family come to visit as this is not their main residence.

A keen confident cook who is happy making mainly casual family food - enjoy using produce from the garden - keep things fresh and healthy - plan the meals shop and store ingredients and even cook in batches. Making jams and using produce.

The  Estate manager has a large role as the gardener  insole charge so needs horticultural knowledge and confidence.  There is  a lake, woodland and gardens. Ability to grow fruit and veg in a new kitchen garden and greenhouse.

 

As the property manager also to coordinate trades people and be the main caretaker - security and to attend to fire-security alarms in case of an emergency.

MUST BOTH BE DRIVERS due to the location to be independent.

Rural lovers of the countryside with an interest in boats and fishing would be great. A grounds maintenance worker is at hand to help, and if and when necessary additional trades and staff can be bought in.

These incredible grounds are a reasonable size - the Gardens have extensive planted borders with a wide range of herbaceous perennials, grasses and ferns, shrubs, hedges and mature trees. The gardens also include lawns, raised beds, patios and a children’s play area swimming pool and sauna. Cultivated areas of garden with shrub and herbaceous borders, hedging and lawns, a wildflower meadow, a large kitchen garden and greenhouse, an extensive composting area, as well as large areas of woodland. The property also includes a lake. Grounds maintenance staff is at hand to help.

  • Initiative and experience in managing gardens.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and chemical-free gardening.
  • Bee-keeping (or a willingness to learn).
  • Knowledge and ability to manage areas of woodland
  • Confidence with a wide range of garden and estate machinery including quad bike.
  • Physical fitness and strength.
  • Practical skills for making repairs in and around both properties.
  • A full UK driving licence and use of a car to travel between the two properties.
  • An ability or interest relating to the lake, boats and/or fishing.

Housekeeper

Well organised.

Excellent cooking, but informal, no service required.

Deep cleaning.

Assisting gardener, if required, to keep the property clean and tidy outside as well, to collect and clean eggs from hens, and to harvest fruit and veg from the gardens for cooking

  • Dehydrating fruit and making jam.
  • Maintaining household appliances.
  • Shopping.
  • There  is a well renovated and decorated traditional cottage with own gardens near a farm - Families welcome with older children.
    3 bedrooms with integrated wardrobes, 1 brand new bathroom and 1 WC, kitchen, vestibule, living room with wood/coal burner. Pets are welcome within reason.

    Private parking, own gardens (south and north, incl. veg garden, fruit trees).
