This is a new role.
Seeking an experienced live in Housekeeper for a period home of high quality located in beautiful St Andrews. Scotland. The live in accommodation is being refreshed and is a one bedroom garden apartment with its own entrance. Suited to a single person no dependents - - a small pet may be welcome. Must be a driver.
The housekeeper who has been there 10 years is retiring. The role is so varied and interesting covering House Manager, Housekeeper, Caretaker .
The American employers are visitors in the summer uup to 3 weeks and also can come over for a few days to a week when possible.
As the sole housekeeper you will oversee the smooth daily operations ensuring discreet, efficient care of the home and all its contents.
Maintain household schedules, budgets, inventories, and operational systems.
Coordinate property maintenance, repairs, and external service providers, ensuring the buildings and grounds remain in immaculate condition.
Using charm and care to build reliable repair and tradesmen relations for good maintenance of the home.
Cooking is helpful or some food prep - they have a chef to call on so mainly helping with meals dinners, and family gatherings in terms of stocking the home with food and drinks learning the family preferences and having those ready when they visit.
Liaise with the family and communicate to ensure all household needs are anticipated and fulfilled.
Security of the property and ensure safe running of the estate
Preparations for arrivals and departures when the family come - so they feel back at home and welcome - typically 3 weeks summer and odd visits for a few days at a time sometimes with a few days shorter notice,
Occasional driving duties, airport pickups, or errand running.
If you enjoy cooking there may be an opportunity from time to time– they are not fussy they eat everything-
Skills & Attributes
- Experience managing a private household ideally a period property or lodge on an estate with quality furniture and care of the interior.
- Professional, calm, mature warm and good communication skills and discretion.
- Full UK driving license and DBS required.
The main role is hands on cleaning and housekeeping the main residence. The employers also own the next-door property when the renovations are completed there may be additional duties there. The fmaily are visitors not in full time residence.

- Laundry, ironing, wardrobe management, and organization of personal and household linens.bedroom preparation, and guest-readiness when in residence
- Assistance with setting table or informal meal preparation, and kitchen support if needed
- Purchasing household supplies, running errands, and maintaining inventories.
- Seasonal tasks such as opening/closing rooms, assisting with festive décor
You will be happy to have attention to detail and pride in maintaining the highest standards.
Someone who is organized, self-sufficient, and discreet. Warm, friendly, and service-oriented.
The family are friendly and not wanting formal at hand service when they visit someone discreet and more a background presence Working harmoniously together
Being flexible to visiting family, including occasional evening or weekend support.Upholding absolute confidentiality and professionalism at all times.Acting as dedicated caretakers of the property when the principals are away.
Receiving goods sent by the family and having them in use in the house when they visit.
